Oakland University launched Global Medical Brigades in August 2010.
Every December, Oakland University's chapter brings 30-40 brigaders to Honduras to provide free medical and dental care to an assigned rural community.
Global Brigades is the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Student leaders at Oakland University are in the process of launching additional chapters including Global Architecture Brigades and Global Public Health Brigades. Beyond global health services, we will be able to provide additional programs that assist with sustainable development.

Travel to Honduras with a group of Oakland University students to rural areas of Honduras, and provide free health care to an impoverished community. For three days, we set up a mobile medical unit, and stay until every patient is seen that day. The last day of our brigade is spent doing a Pilot Brigade, such as Water Brigades, Microfinance Brigades, Architecture Brigades, etc; Pilot Brigades allow students to see other areas of the Global Brigades' mission.
Beginning every January, informational sessions commence; at the information meetings, an application will be available for interested students.
A year leading up to the brigade, students are involved in recruiting health care professionals, gathering medication and medical supplies, and assisting with planning an educational charla (preventative health) for the Honduran children that come to our mobile medical unit.
